aCabinet Digital Library
aCabinet is a web/email digital library platform. Managers upload files – up to 20 megs in size – via the website into Google Drive. Members (currently limited to 1000 users) call off a catalog and file copies using email commands. Files arrive in 1-2 minutes and carry hierarchical tags to be easily findable in inboxes. The platform runs asynchronously, freeing devices while files are being called. Where the internet is slow, aCabinet delivers files more efficiently than downloading from websites. When offline, aCabinet commands can be sent and files will arrive later when an internet connection is established. In addition, aCabinet’s lightweight structure means shareable libraries can be built and maintained at less cost than with similar websites. Users might be rural students or medical clinics; in urban settings they could be from other groups - for example, tutored after-school classes.
*The "a" in aCabinet stands for "asynchronous" connectivity, a key characteristic of this file access system.
